Leptospirosis unveiled

Recently i have received a number of mails on “(Leptospirosis) soda can drinks”. Well if you don’t know what I’m talking about wait for your friends to send you a copy =X
And boy the content sure makes you tremble a little because you have been drinking from the cans like me! But but but after some research (cos i had nothing to do) I realized the email was a little exaggerating.

Here’s the information that I have gathered
Leptospirosis is caused by the leptospira bacterium.
Human infection is caused by exposure to the bacteria that have been shed by an INFECTED animal, and most of the time it will be their urine. The bacteria will have to enter your bloodstream to cause infection and they cannot penetrate dry and undamaged skin.
Leptospira bacterium cannot survive without water, so meaning even if urine with leptospira bacterium comes into contact with your food/drink cans but DRYS up (bacteria dies) after that your risk of getting infected is 0.
Incubation time is about 3 – 21 days, most patients develop illness after about 3 to 14 days. Leptospirosis IS NOT A SURE KILL. It depends on the individual, severe infections usually hits patients with poor health.
Mild infection (symptoms) include severe headache, redness in the eyes, muscle pain and fever, however patients with mild infections recover quite quickly. And such cases are rather rare in developed countries.

That’s all I have, do a search on google if you are interested to find out more =D
